So tonight I was dragged (read gleefully went!) to see Magic Mike with my friend Anna.
This was a good use of my Wednesday night.
The film itself was loosely based on Channing Tatum’s experience as an exotic dancer, before he became famous and was essentially about a guy who makes friends with a male stripper and becomes one himself.
The film wasn’t so muched focus on the guy who becomes friends with the stripper (and then becomes one) but on the stripper himself. It’s the stripper’s desire to become more than he is (as a lot of films like this tend to be) and his dilemma of choosing a good life against the easy one of making good money and having fun.
I must say that it wasn’t particularly the most profound of films (not that I was expecting that), the ending is pretty predictable and I’m not convinced as to how much thought went into the storyline but then I’m not convinced as to how many people were going for storyline!
As for acting, Alex Pettyfer seemed to play it totally sullen with not a lot of additional emotion and in some ways the character called for that but I would have liked to have seen more depth to his character. As for Channing Tatum, he was actually pretty darn charming and I’m not even biased as even though I’ve thought his films have been okay in the past, I’ve never been besotted with him in any shape or form.
The man can also dance like a trouper, he has some serious moves!
I’m pretty sure Matthew McConaughey was only in it for vague amusement and he honestly was pretty darn amusing, it’s almost watching for some of his scenes alone!
As for the real interest…..yes there are some bums but no, no front bits! And from a completely shallow angle, as usual, Joe Manganiello had the best body hands down. But then he always does. *sigh*
Okay enough of that for the evening!
